Sighișoara is the only still-inhabited medieval citadel in Transylvania: 164 houses on the hill, nine of the original fourteen towers, World Heritage since 1999. The clock tower of 1556 is 64 metres high; in the clockwork at the top, wooden figures turn for each day of the week.

The Scholars’ Stairs of 1642 climb 175 covered steps to the Church on the Hill and the old school. Down in the town, the house where Vlad Dracul, father of Vlad the Impaler, lived around 1431; we mention it and leave it there.

Day trip together with Mălâncrav and Biertan, about 9 hours.
