Sibiel is a village in Mărginimea Sibiului, the shepherds’ country west of Sibiu. It is known for the museum of icons painted on glass that the priest Zosim Oancea assembled from 1969 from villagers’ donations: over 600 pieces, the largest collection of its kind in Transylvania.
Families in the village host visitors for lunch; cheese, zacuscă and cakes come from their own farms. A path leads in an hour to the ruins of Salgó castle.
Sibiel is on our day trip to Alba Iulia and Câlnic.
