Cindrel mountains

Distance
30 km from Sibiu
Driving time
45 min
Best time
June–September for hiking; December–March for skiing at Păltiniș

The Cindrel mountains begin half an hour beyond Sibiu. They are a range of broad alpine pastures rather than rock ridges: paths over high meadows, shepherds’ huts, flocks with dogs in summer. The highest point is Cindrel at 2244 m, below it the glacial lakes Iezerul Mare and Iezerul Mic.

The starting point is Păltiniș at 1442 m, founded in 1894 by the Transylvanian Carpathian Society and so the oldest mountain resort in the country. Marked trails of every grade lead from there.

Our guided day hike is among the most visited pages of this site.
