Bran castle was built in 1377 by the people of Brașov as a customs fortress on the pass between Transylvania and Wallachia. In 1920 the town gave it to Queen Marie, who turned it into a summer residence; the rooms are furnished as she left them.
The castle has nothing to do with Dracula; Bram Stoker never knew of it. We say so plainly on the tour and show what is actually there: a well-preserved border castle overlooking two mountain ranges. Crowds peak at midday.
Part of the day trip to Brașov and Prejmer.
- Border castle of 1377 on the Bran pass
- Rooms of Queen Marie (1920s)
- View of the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului mountains
- Farmers' market below the castle
